Hi everyone,
John Dewey once said, “Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself”.
As a student studying, who is beyond bored of her studies, I think through this post I reaffirmed my faith in education and I hope you do too.
When, I asked myself what is education? All I could think of were the endless pages of some melodramatic Hindi story, we have to rote-learn.
The truth is I think we all forgot the true meaning of education. Education isn’t confined to textbooks and notebooks. Education is around you. To me, education is noticing the colours of leaves changing, realizing your mistakes, and knowing the roads around you. To me education is sports, having morals like teamwork, kindness, and honesty,
The truth about education is that it is re-defined by every person who seeks it.
Recently I watched Dasvi: A movie about this chief minister who was blind in power and got work done through corrupt means and he basically got arrested under some criminal charges. His pride and ego couldn’t fit into the jail life and he decided to escape the demeaning chores they had to do in prison and prepare for his 10th standard education. He had only studied till the 8th and you can see the effect education had on his swollen head. He realized his mistakes from lessons of history and understood that if a man doesn’t learn from his history, he will become history himself.
This movie highlighted the transformative powers of education. When he learned about the freedom struggle, it completely redirected his goal as CM and made him realize his duty was for the nation. Education literally has the power to change people, mindsets, and habits.
Education has the power to change lives.
I think all these years we have truly misunderstood what education is and I am willing to go on this quest to experience the true essence of education.
We educate ourselves to leave the world a little bit better than how we found it:)
